1. Introduction

Pixmion is a trading name of BYPASSHIRE LIMITED (company number 15981770, registered at Unit A, 82 James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Suffolk, IP28 7DE).

Pixmion aggregates vehicle data from multiple authoritative UK sources to give you a comprehensive picture of most UK-registered vehicles' history. We present this data in a clear, easy-to-understand report so you can make informed decisions before purchasing a used vehicle.

2. DVLA & DVSA Data

We retrieve the following information directly from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) via their official APIs:

  • Vehicle registration details — make, model, colour, engine size, fuel type, year of manufacture, and other specification data held on the DVLA register (via DVLA).
  • MOT history — full test history including test dates, pass/fail results, recorded mileage readings at each test, advisory notices, and failure reasons (via DVSA).
  • Tax status — current vehicle excise duty (road tax) status, including whether the vehicle is taxed, declared SORN, or untaxed (via DVLA).

All data in this section is sourced via official DVLA and DVSA APIs and reflects the information held on their respective databases at the time of your check.

Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Source: Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

3. Third-Party Vehicle History Providers

In addition to DVLA data, we query licensed third-party data providers to compile a comprehensive vehicle history. This includes:

  • Finance checks — outstanding finance agreements registered against the vehicle, which may affect your right to own it after purchase.
  • Insurance write-off records — whether the vehicle has been recorded as an insurance write-off, including the category (Category A, Category B, Category S, Category N, and older categories such as C and D).
  • Stolen vehicle checks — derived from Police National Computer (PNC) records, sourced via licensed third-party access, indicating whether the vehicle has been reported as stolen.
  • Scrapped vehicle records — whether the vehicle has been officially recorded as scrapped or destroyed.
  • Mileage discrepancy analysis — comparison of MOT mileage readings recorded over time to identify potential clocking or inconsistencies. Mileage data is sourced from DVSA MOT records, not from the National Mileage Register (NMR).
  • Number plate changes — history of registration plate changes, which can sometimes be used to disguise a vehicle's true identity.
  • Import/export history — whether the vehicle has been imported into or exported from the UK.

This data is sourced via UKVD and/or equivalent licensed data providers who maintain direct relationships with the relevant authoritative databases.

3a. AI-Powered Analysis

In addition to presenting raw data, each Pixmion report includes an AI-powered plain-English analysis generated using OpenAI. This analysis summarises the key findings from your vehicle check, highlighting anything that may need your attention.

Important: While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated content may occasionally contain errors, misinterpretations, or omissions. The AI summary is provided as a helpful guide only. You should always review the underlying data presented alongside the AI summary and verify important findings independently.

Only vehicle-related data (registration details, MOT history, and background check results) is sent to OpenAI for this purpose — no personal data such as your name, email, or payment information is included. For more details, see our Privacy Notice.

4. Data Accuracy & Limitations

While we strive to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information, please be aware of the following limitations:

  • Data is only as current as the source databases from which it is retrieved. There may be a short delay between an event occurring and it being recorded.
  • Some records may not be available for all vehicles. Very old vehicles, vehicles originally registered outside the UK, and certain imports may have incomplete histories.
  • Mileage readings shown in our reports are sourced from MOT test records. We do not use the National Mileage Register (NMR). MOT-based mileage is recorded only at test time, so there may be gaps between readings.
  • A clear report does not guarantee that no issues exist with a vehicle — it means that no issues were found in the databases we checked at the time of the search.
  • Pixmion does not include a data guarantee or insurance product. We do not offer financial compensation if information in a report later proves to be incomplete or inaccurate due to limitations in the underlying data sources.
  • We strongly recommend combining a Pixmion report with a thorough physical inspection of the vehicle, ideally carried out by a qualified mechanic.

5. Update Frequency

  • DVLA data — retrieved in real-time via the DVLA API each time you run a check, ensuring you receive the latest information available.
  • Third-party data — updated regularly by our data providers, typically on a daily basis. The exact update frequency may vary by data type and provider.
